Hi! I've been gone for a while due to a little surgery, but I'm home again. I thank God for blessing me with friends and family who are so willing to help! I had several visitors when I was in the hospital, and one already stopped by this evening to give me a care package: some chocolate for a treat and ginger ale to settle my tummy. :o)
I think the meds I got in the hospital were WAY better than my prescriptions. I hurt pretty badly tonight, but I'm sure I'll get better soon.
For the first time I had the opportunity to read a note from my substitute teacher, and my kids are giving her a rough time. Perhaps she is simply too nice. I gave her some pointers and offered to help her in any way I could. She'll be "me" until March 4th, so I hope the first two days of class haven't discouraged her too badly.
I will never, ever take walking for granted. I shuffled through the halls at the hospital as often as I could, even the day after surgery, and I'm shuffling here at home too. I miss my job terribly already, and I'm looking forward to seeing my students again.
Until then, I must learn to relax and fill my days with some scripture reading and prayer before tackling the grading that must be done.
Do you have any prayer requests? I'd love to pray for/with you! God bless!
How are you? I'm sleepy but happy!
I accomplished a lot today, both at work and at church. My pastor made my life soooooo much easier by helping me this afternoon. He rocks, whether he's helping me or not, but you guys already knew that.
I didn't have an "easy" day at work today, but tomorrow should be better. I promise to write more later. Perhaps I'll even post some pics tomorrow. Ciao!
Wow...I hadn't realized how long it has been since my last post!
My life in a nutshell:
1.) I've been busy, but relaxing has been a priority lately. I have to remember that, even though I feel pretty good most of the time, I still can't lift anything heavy. My first surgery didn't work, so I'm getting scheduled for another one. That will probably happen in a week or two. Oh well...
2.) My students are finally understanding their grammar lessons! Woo hoo!!!
3.) My boys have been FANTASTIC about helping me around the house. My favorite exercise in the winter is shoveling snow, and I do it often. Unfortunately, I can't lift it right now, so they pitched in. They OFFER to help me frequently, and I feel so loved! Yesterday, my son had plans with a friend, but before he walked out the door, he said, "Hey, Mom, can I do anything for you before I leave?" Sweetie pie, eh?
4.) My children are so self-conscious about helping me save money. My older son came home with his hair cut; it looked nice but a bit odd. I asked, "Who cut your hair?" His friend and his brother did. Oh my. I tried to fix it before church this morning.
5.) As I type this, I'm frying chicken for a pot luck at church. I also made a pot of chili. I don't have much, but I'm willing to share what I've got. I LOVE chatting with my church family at these gatherings! These folks are awesome!
I hope your new year is going nicely. God bless!
Since speaking on Sunday I have been intrigued by preaching styles. Flipping through channels looking for preachers, I wanted to not only hear God's word but also observe the delivery of it.
Last week I wanted God to be the focus of the service. I didn't want to take any attention away from the Lord, but part of me really wanted to know what people thought.
If God liked it, then he'll allow me to do it again. :o)
Yesterday was a wonderful day! We needed new cell phones, but a cell phone provider bought our old company, and the new folks don't supply free phones. In fact, the cheapest phone they offered was $200! Besides, we wouldn't have received the "free" phones until the end of 2009 anyway.
So, my younger son and I decided to talk to God about it.
We prayed, "Lord, please show us favor! If it's in your will to give us affordable phones and a better plan, then we receive that, Lord! If not, we still love and praise you! We want your will for us, whatever that may be, Father. Thank you! In Jesus' name, amen."
We walked into the store, and I immediately recognized one of the associates as a former student. She ran over and gave me a big hug.
I said, "I've been told that the cheapest phones you have are $200. I don't have that kind of extra money, but I need THREE phones. Can you help me?"
She said, "Sure! No problem! Just come over here and pick some!"
Look at God! Here's what the Lord did for us:
1.) I was NOT penalized for ending the contracts early. [The lady I spoke to last summer told me there'd be a huge penalty.]
2.) She had several nice phones that were only $20 with a new contract! [That's only 10% of $200!]
3.) She DOUBLED our anytime minutes for the price of one trip to McDonald's - - - ordering from the dollar menu!
4.) My son brought his Christmas money and splurged on a really nice phone instead of the $20 one. [He paid for the difference...not me.]
5.) We received accessories too! [I had previously been told I'd have to pay for each one.] I felt comfortable accepting all of them because her manager and another associate helped her put our package together, so she wasn't being immoral to get me a good deal. We had simply found favor from the most high God!
So...what should have theoretically cost me at least $600 [$200/phone] only cost me $60! Woo hoo! Praise God!
I know that was a long story, but I just had to brag about the goodness of God! I'm so grateful, and so are my boys.
